Resurrection #13 Cover Comps and Finish

I finished drawing the conclusion to the Church of the Cosmos storyline in issue #13 last week and I've got to say, this arc ends with some pretty major happenings- I found myself drawing the last couple of pages with a big ol' grin. Fun, surprising stuff.

Here are some of the comps for the cover of issue #13, along with the finished inked version. Like it was with the previous cover, I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted to be on the cover, but it came down to two of the comps with regard to layout. The first two are pretty much the same shot, just different spacing. The third was the same image but from a different angle.





After collaborating with Marc and James, we decided to go with the third one, comp 2; it was a little more engaging and probably framed the shot best. I also have to give a special thanks to Keith Wood, Oni's Art Director and designer extrordinaire, for helping me get the most out of the image by adjusting the design a bit to work better with the logo.

Now Those Are Some Good Lookin' Fellas...

I just came across this photo from WonderCon and thought I'd throw it up on the site- I shared a table with partners in crime Dave Dwonch (center) and Super Ugly (right) and we had a great time, despite my being roughed up pretty good on that Saturday. Both of these guys got mad skills as artists and they also do a weekly comic/pop culture podcast as the Geek Savants. Definitely some very funny guys but probably not for folks with delicate sensibilities. Personally, I'm a child of the eighties and I like a little edge to my humor so it's no wonder I find myself chuckling along with them. Check 'em out here.

Resurrection #11 Hit Stands on Wednesday!

The Church of the Cosmos storyline continues as our heroes face off with the Infected and come to grips with their situation. I had a good time drawing this one and I loved the back up Resurrection Tales by Jen Van Meter and TJ Kirsch, very cool.

I really liked the lead in on this issue- it was very ominous and set the stage great for what was to come. Here are the first few pages after I inked them:

It's May already? When did that happen?

Time's been flying and I've been jamming over here, cranking out work and goofing around alike. Oakland's been starting to warm up and it's looking like it's going to be an awesome summer. Crossing my fingers...

I wanted to put up some page comps for a few of my favorites from issue #10 (still on sale in comic shops everywhere!). My finished ink pages came out pretty close to the originals, but I alway like putting a little rough work up to check out. Here are the little comp versions for pages 9, 10 and 11:
